Leading the way in Sustainability in UK Sports Clubs


Rochester, Kent – 22 November, 2013. Sherwood Cricket Club is proud to be featured in an ECB video supporting the Green Grants awards.  

 “We are pleased to be featured in the ECB video and supporting their promotion of best practices in sustainability”, said Tony Rossiter, Chairman, Sherwood CC. "Sherwood are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and the award from ECB of a grant for our LED lighting helps us achieve these goals".


ECB, in consultation with Kent Cricket Board awarded Sherwood a grant for the replacement of the lighting system throughout the club with the latest LED lighting technology. The new lighting was supplied by and TLC in Rochester. Installation was undertaken by Shane Bunn, a club member and qualified electrician at no cost to the club. The lighting system will reduce the running costs by around 83%. Since installing the new lighting system, many members have noticed a significant difference in the ambiance and appearance at the club.


The lighting system uses the latest LED bulb technology - NextGen II from and a range of LED strip lighting throughout the clubhouse. 


"The grant from ECB has enabled us to further enhance the clubhouse and drive significant savings in ongoing running costs", said Tony Rossiter. "The video shows some of the aspects of our ongoing improvements and supports our aims to be a forward thinking, environmentally conscious sports club. About Sherwood Cricket Club

Sherwood Cricket Club was established in 1965. We have an active Senior and Youth section of over 140 members aged from 6 to 74 years. Sherwood Cricket Club adopts an all-inclusive policy for its members irrespective of age, gender, ethnic background or cricket ability. We are a CASC, Clubmark club and recognised Focus Club by Kent Cricket Board and ECB in recognition of the community achievements and support provided to other clubs. We were awarded the Bronze for Club of the Year in the Medway Sports Awards 2009 for our outstanding achievements for cricket in the local community and recently nominated as a finalist in the Kent Excellence in Business Awards (KEiBA) in the category of Commitment to the Environment.

Sherwood plays an active role in the local community, we support grass roots cricket coaching in local primary and secondary schools as part of the Cricket Foundations Charity – Chance to Shine, delivering  over 300 hours of coaching per year to in excess of 300 children, part of a 5-year cricket sustainability programme . In addition, we work with Kent Police supporting their Afghan orphan’s project, the British Army “Be the Best” events and host the Medway Girls Cricket Academy. The clubhouse is used by local community groups and is used as a polling station for elections.
