Reduced carbon footprint and environmental best practices come to Sherwood

Rochester, Kent – 10th October, 2012. Sherwood Cricket Club is proud to announce that as part of an ongoing commitment to reduce their carbon footprint and to be a leading sports club in environmental best practices they have received the STEM Silver award for sustainability.
Tony Rossiter, Chairman - Sherwood CC commented “We are the first cricket club in the South East of England to have gained this award and it shows that as a community sports club we are taking the impact we have on the environment seriously. This is our second step towards ISO 14001 accreditation, which we hope to achieve within the next two years".

Sherwood Cricket Club has been actively pursuing a greener footprint over the past year with the installation of a large solarpv system, improved insulation and an enhanced energy management system (EMS) at the club. Additionally, the club are increasing their efforts to re-cycle waste and are seeking funding to install a rainwater harvesting and irrigation system. This combined with the training provided by the Kent County Council and South East Business Carbon Hub enables Sherwood to understand it's carbon footprint and drive initiatives to become a far more environmentally friendly facility.

Recently, Sherwood presented their achievements at the British Association of Sustainability in Sport (BASIS) annual conference at Cheltenham Racecourse to an audience of over 85 members of various national governing bodies.

"Sports clubs like Sherwood are at the heart of their local community and as such have a responsibility to become more environmentally friendly", said Peter Robinson, Director of Kent Cricket Board, "this is another example of Sherwood being a leader in sustainability and environmental best practice".
