A Brief History

lg lashingsBy June 1995 work was complete and we began to use the clubhouse. Its official opening took place on 27th May 1996, by Richie Richardson. Many social and fund raising events followed, so that we could run the club and clear our loans. Lots of members put in many hours of work getting the ground and square into shape and putting the finishing touches to the clubhouse.

From the outset, the single wicket competition became an annual event looked forward to by players and their families. A special lunch was arranged and later a marquee was added.

Another annual event from early days was the Dinner Dance and Presentation Evening. Almost 100 per cent of members would attend both of the above events and everyone had a great time.

During the mid 1970's the annual tour started up. I have very fond memories of camping/caravanning with all the family at Wotton-under-Edge, plus the unforgettable 'Scrumpy Cider!'

For many years we have encouraged young people to join our junior teams, and many of our present playing members started this way. For a long time we ran only an Under 17 side, but in recent years this has been extended down to Under 15, Under 13 and, in this our celebration year, to Under 11 for the first time.
