Written by Surfmarketing. Posted in About Us

wicketsSherwood Cricket Club is a long established club, cricket has been played at Cloudesley Close for many years prior to Sherwood Cricket Club being founded. The Club has its own pavilion with changing rooms, showers and a bar on the grounds. Sherwood Cricket Club owns the grounds and clubhouse on which we play.

The Club currently runs adult 1st and 2nd teams in the Kent Regional League, together with three Sunday XI’s playing both competitive league matches and friendly matches.

The Club was formed in 1965 and as of the 2014 season was providing coaching and matches for over 95 youngsters with an age range of 5-17. The coaching is carried out by England and Wales Cricket Board Qualified Coaches assisted by volunteers from the parents and players from the club.

Everybody involved in the coaching has been enhanced CRB checked for working with children. The club has its own Child Welfare Officer details of whom are available on our contacts page and who sits on the main Club Committee.

The Club Committee has an active policy of bringing youth players who have reached a safe level of competence in to the adult teams, and we are proud of the fact that the current Saturday and Sunday 1st XI has at times many current and former youth players representing the Club.

Our Sunday 3rd team is a transition team for youths about to enter senior cricket we play a number of friendly games against other clubs in the area. We believe that this shows a commitment from the club to encourage the transition from youth to senior cricket in a struc-tured and well planned way.

We promote a friendly family style atmosphere and believe strongly that the Youth section is the life blood of the club and we recognize its importance to our future.

The Youth section currently enters teams at Under 11, Under 13, Under 14, Under 15 and Under 17 in the Medway Youth Cricket League. Matches in these leagues take place on a Friday evening (Under 11), Sunday morning (Under 13,14 and 15) and Tuesday evening for the Under 17. In 2013 we launched our Under 7's cricket team, focusing on the next generation of cricketer and ensuring they all have fun when taking part.

Coaching takes place on various evenings at the ground and at local schools details can be obtained from the coaches. We are actively involved with local schools, the local Medway Council Sports Development team and the Kent Cricket Board.

The club has adopted the ECB ‘Safe Hands—Welfare of Young People in Cricket’ policy, a copy of which is available from our website and displayed in the clubhouse. We are pleased to say that the club is also Sport England Clubmark accredited and is a Focus Club in recognition for the work we do in the local community.

This confirms our commitment to cricket at all levels, but in particular to children of all ages. We are an all-inclusive club and welcome players from all social and ethnic backgrounds, irrespective of their cricket knowledge and ability.
